Foothill College is regarded as one of the most beautiful and successful community colleges in the United States and helped define a new level of quality and innovation within the community college system, garnering numerous accolades since it's inception in 1960.

Continuing with this mindset, Foothill is committed to maintaining that same level of innovation in the 21st century. They selected Ratcliff in 2016 to redevelop their old library into a modern learning resource center. A new quiet study room was created on the existing mezzanine level, which features floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides overlooking the main floor of the library.

Propp+Guerin was chosen to sign the newly renovated building, along with the new study room. A custom safety/privacy screen was applied to the glass walls surrounding the reading center to keep visitors from walking through the glass, and also to obscure the view of on-lookers from below.

Famous quotes from classic to contemporary literature and events of historical significance were used to create the safety/privacy screen by layering the text in a cascading effect on the glass walls surrounding the mezzanine. The quotes, flopped in an alternating fashion, allow visitors to read them from either inside or outside of the reading center.
