Standing in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District at 525 Market Street, is a 38-story modern office building with 27,500 rentable square feet. Originally completed in 1973, it was in need of a remodel and Keating|Khang Architecture was selected to update the main entrance and lobby areas of the building, which included a majestic two-story lobby featuring a glass bridge over the expansive lobby along Market Street.
Working with Propp+Guerin, exterior identification and main lobby signage for the building was created, as well as, a standard signage program for building directional, room identification, code and tenant signage for each of the available floors within the building.
Borrowing from the aesthetic of the new glass bridge, along with the existing architecture of the building, signage using glass and metal were designed to contrast the split-faced travertine and Italian granite used extensively throughout the new lobby.
A custom font for use in marketing materials for the building was developed based on the newly created identity. The condensed letterforms speak to the history of the tall building, as it was the second tallest building in San Francisco at the time of its completion. In addition, top level pages to their website were redesigned to reflect the new identity program.
